Who is Butterfly Kisses?

You already know I love to sew...
You know I'm a Mom.....

What else is there to know?
Here are some fun (or funny) facts about the
person/face behind BK!

Did you know that I am extremely shy?
It takes me forever to warm up,
but once I do then I am loads of fun.
I am also really shy in front of the camera.
My cheeks start to shake uncontrollably,
and I end up looking ridiculous.
My girlfriend Kendra (Kendra Croft Photography),
took these photos, and even though I know her,
I was a quivering mess.

I'm a sleepwalker. Big time.
You can't take me anywhere.
Seriously, its embarrassing.

When I was in grade 8, I broke my leg in 3 places.
Playing basketball...in the school gym.
I was in a hip to toe cast for 6 months,
as well as a wheel chair.
GREAT way to start high school!

I'm in love with (well...slightly obsessed with):
Stevia
Tazo Awake Tea
Purex Baby Laundry detergent
Hummus
Dry Shampoo
Sunshine
 Emma Stone
Jennifer Lawrence
Trader Joes
Peanut Butter
Stella & Dot

I am a positive person. I challenge myself everyday to be more positive, not the unicorns and fairytale kind of positive. But more of a search for the silver lining in any situation,
kind of positive.

timing couldn't be better!

Adorable cuddle blanket lined in super soft Minky. Matching Bib and Burp Cloth to complete the set!

Groovy Snack Bag for Big Brother Ty~

Baby Gifts, Matching Sets, Baby Shower Presents, Baby Girl, Baby Boy, Gender Neutral Baby

I've been doing some reflection lately on my Etsy Shop. Looking for ways to improve my products, and full fill the needs of my clients and target market.
One of the big changes that I have made is creating my products as a set, rather then a single item. The majority of my clients are looking for baby items as a gift.
When I am looking for a gift, I want something I can give as a matching set. I want the prints to coordinate.
I want modern, trendy prints.
What I have found interesting, is that prints that have never been popular, all of the sudden put together in a coordinating set, are selling like hot cakes.
Here is a look at some of the sets available for purchase in my Etsy shop:

Featured Mompreneur: Stephanie Stumph from Butterfly Kisses!

by True Cuddles on April 8, 2013

This week’s interview comes from Stephanie Stumph owner of Butterfly Kisses. Her endearing home-made creations have taken off and can be even be spotted on Hollywood’s celebrity children. Check out our interview with Stephanie below!
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am 32 years old, I married my best friend Mike 8.5 years ago. We have 2 beautiful children, my son Taleson (Tal-uh-son) who will be 5 in June, and my daughter Taelynn (Tay-lynn) just turned 2. I grew up in Langley BC, and haven’t fallen far from the tree! I have always loved to sew, my Mom and Nana were both amazing seamstresses and have taught me everything I know. I have always wanted to start my own business, but never had the time to put into it. When I was on mat leave, I finally got the time, and went full force with it like a bull.

2. Tell us about your business and how did your business begin?
Butterfly Kisses was born in May 2011. I was lying in bed one night thinking about it, and thought, why not? There is nothing to loose. I’m just going to do it. The response was beyond overwhelming. I was in complete shock for the entire first year. It took off so fast my head was literally spinning. I was supposed to go back to work in November of that year, and I was able to make the decision to stay home with my kids, and focus on BK.

3. What makes your business unique?
I think what makes my business unique is the thought that goes into the design of my products. I use certain materials because I know from experience that something like a burp cloth needs to be extremely absorbent. I know after using many bibs with velcro, that I HATE velcro… from the damage it has done to other laundry in the dryer, to the fact that my babies would just rip their bibs off. I could go on about how much I despise velcro. So, instead I use KAM snaps.
I make my blankets extra-large, because I have SO many blankets in my house that were too small for my kids after 3 months. I like convenience, and I adjust my products to reflect that.

4. If you had to describe your business in less than 15 words, how would you do it?
Superior quality products, that meet the needs of modern active parents. Simple, and beautiful.

5. What are three items you always have in your purse/bag (besides the typical wallet, keys, and phone)?
Butterfly Smock
An assortment of tea (Tazo’s, Mighty Leaf etc) I’m a total Tea snob.
My diaper and wipe case from Chic Tots.

6. How do you juggle it all while being a mom?
Very strict time management. I take on only what I know I can, and contract out to my seamstresses when I need to. Being a full time mom, and a full time entrepreneur is extremely difficult, but the most important is to keep those two worlds separate. This is a constant challenge. It is extremely difficult to balance the 2. Not to mention keeping the house clean, having meals cooked, and being a wife! But I love chaos, I thrive in it, and this is my beautiful chaos. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

7. What keeps you motivated?
My kids. My husband. My clients. The positive feedback I receive from my clients is huge. Being able to spend so much time with my kids is addicting. I will push and push my business, I don’t think I will ever stop trying to make her grow!

8. What is your guilty pleasure? And how do you recharge after a long day?
The Bachelor is definitely my guilty pleasure. I was recently talking with my girlfriends about this. Its funny, because recently there was an interview with the Bachelor, and he mentioned that he is so shocked that SO many people are interested in his love life, and interested in how it turns out. Sorry Bachelor, that’s not it at all. We watch for the drama. Having a “Tierra” every season is the reason we watch. I could care less about the relationship that comes out of this odd social experiment, I want to watch the girls crack under pressure, and show their true colors.
I recharge after a long day with a massive mug of tea, and some down time with my family.

9. What does your “go-to outfit” consist of in your closet (specific brands you love, etc.)?
I live in my Lulu wonder under leggings. They are dark grey with a herringbone print. To say I love them would be an understatement. I cannot live without them.

10. What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a mompreneur?
Write a business plan. Research your market. Make sure your product is the best it can be. Invest in a graphic designer to create your brand and look. Seek out other successful businesses and ask LOTS of questions. Make sure your products are photographed in a consistent, professional manner. Don’t worry about the number of “likes” or “followers” you have. Focus on your business, and your product. The numbers will come, and reflect the business you have created. Just because you have 5000 fans on facebook, doesn’t mean your business is going to be successful.

11. At this point in time, what is your dream for the future of your business?
My dream for Butterfly Kisses is to be on the shelves of Babies R Us, and in Baby Boutiques all over the world. Having a shop on Etsy has made it pretty easy to get into the boutiques that I am currently in. Buyers search Etsy for unique baby products to stock their stores. Because of Etsy, I am in 14 boutiques currently, from Singapore, to Ontario, to the North West Territories! My short term goal for this year is to get into more local boutiques!

12. What forms of advertising do you find most effective for your business?
By far, without a doubt social media. Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin. The reason my business is so successful today is because of these amazing outlets. Word of mouth can only go so far, but word of mouth on a social network is amazing to watch. Celebrity gifting is also a great option to gain exposure. There are some really great companies out there to deal with, and I think, very reasonable for cost. Plus it’s pretty rad to have your products going to celebrities!

13. Mac or PC and defend your choice!
I am a total Mac geek. My brain thinks like a Mac, and we just work so well together. My entire business has been built and run on my little Macbook, and I will never go back to a PC. I would be lost without my Macbook, it is my lifeline!

14. What would you say are the three best business practices you demonstrate or would like to start demonstrating?
Customer service is my top priority. I worked for Coast Capital Savings for 10 years, and was molded into the business person I am today. Giving exceptional, over the top, WOW customer service is what makes customers come back to you, and most importantly refer you to their friends.

My second most important practice is to ensure my products are the best quality and best craftsmanship possible. I am extremely picky, and will not send out a product unless it is 100% perfect. My husband also does a double inspection to approve all products.

My third best practice would be time management. In order for me to create my best work, I need to be rested, and happy! I have learned very quickly that I cannot let myself get burnt out. I cannot stay up until 3am sewing every night. I was concerned how my customers would react to the change in time frame, however the response has been more then happy. They understand me, and relate to me. I have the most wonderful clients!

15. What actions do you take to keep your business eco-friendly?
I have created a Fundraising program for Schools and Daycares that promotes a litter-less lunch. The Reusable Snack Bag is the perfect option to keep lunches litter-less. The patterns available in the program, are fun for kids, and get them excited about it as well. This programs challenges schools, parents and kids to be more aware of what they are throwing in the garbage. It educates them, and gives them the tools to make a difference. Plus, it helps them to raise funds for their school!

Hollywood bound
Langley entrepreneur Stephanie Stumph has again been selected to contribute to celebrity gift baskets bound for Hollywood.
Stumph's online baby boutique, Butterfly Kisses [www.butterflykissesco.com], has been chosen as one of the exclusive businesses to adorn gift baskets that will be given to celebrity moms Kourtney Kardashian and Tori Spelling.
Stumph's signature product, the Butterfly Smock will be snapped around the necks of the tiniest celebrities.
"I am awestruck to be included in these amazing gift baskets," gushed Stumph.
"As a teen, I spent my Wednesday nights glued to the television watching Tori in 90210 and knowing that my product will be keeping her precious babes tidy and dry through meal time is pretty awesome."
Stumph first worked with Black Diamond Celebrity Gifting in 2011, developing customized gift baskets for Kim Kardashian and Reese Witherspoon.
"I am so lucky to be able to do what I love, stay home with my kids and make a decent living from it," she said.
"Into my second year of business, I am busier than ever - sales have grown by 65 per cent allowing me to hire my first employees."
Although the creation of Butterfly Kisses has meant long day and even longer nights for Stumph, who is also a mom to two busy kids.
"I can't imagine doing anything else," she said.
As she begins to scan People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight for her product around the necks of the hottest babes in Hollywood, Stumph continues to innovate and design new children's products that are sure to make the lives of moms - celebrity or not - tidier, easier and certainly much more stylish.
Stumph's Butterfly Smock is an innovative, original design that brings maximum coverage, an extra absorbent terry cloth backing and trendy prints to mealtime. The bib has been a top-seller for Stumph whose online store features everything from teething toys to reusable snack bags.
The smocks, hand-sewn in prints ranging from funky mustaches to trendy bird prints will be making their way to the nurseries of some of the biggest expectant and newly crowned mama stars thanks to Black Diamond Celebrity Gifting.
"Our company focus is helping small businesses build their product lines, boost their brand, and really get their names out there," explained Brandy Runyan, Black Diamond CEO. "We seek to provide invaluable exposure through high-profile marketing and creative advertising."
รน And stay tuned for a little downtown chatter next week.
